Student stories

We can describe for you what it is like to study at Windesheim Honours College, but it’s best to hear from the experts. Below you find quotes from interviews with students about various topics.

Living together at the student residence

‘It is great to live together because it encourages you to balance your life – sometimes you need to just have fun and sometimes you need to study hard – with your fellow students close you can encourage each other to do both.’ Sebastian Borchers, second year student from Germany

‘Living together is great – it is easy to get together for schoolwork and you always have the option of hanging out together. With your own room it is also nice to be able to close your door and have the privacy and quiet you sometimes need.’ Angela Gonzalez Pedrero, third year student from Spain

‘The room has a wonderful view of the city of Zwolle. I like that we have a common kitchen and our own bathroom. The walls are quite thick so I have never had a problem being disturbed by a neighbour.’ Laura Smit, second year student from the Netherlands

Studying at WHC

‘Studying here means you interact with your fellow students a lot and work hard. You can learn a lot if you put the work in.’ Sebastian Borchers, second year student

‘We have teachers with lots of experience, they give the theory a new dimension.’ Amelie Gerdes, third year student from Germany

‘I like the open-minded atmosphere at the College. I also lived in The Hague for a while and was quite lonely. I’m happy here, everyone is very friendly.’ Clenton Mitali, first year student from Rwanda

‘I enjoy the themes and topics we cover and how we get a chance to connect to people who have experience in our field and interact in real life situations.’ Magda Uerlich, third year student from Germany

‘I like how interactive the classes are and the fact that there is room for questions during the class, the teachers are very responsive in this way.’ Laura Jane van Dijk, third year student from the Netherlands

‘I like that we are small college, it creates room for a lot of interaction with our teachers and each other. We often have discussions in class and this is a fun way to learn.’ Marieke Wijnands, third year student from the Netherlands

‘At WHC things are very personal, you are encouraged to develop yourself and supported in this too. Every lecturer is open and easy to approach for advice.’ Laura Pomarius, third year student from Germany

About Communication & Media

‘It is very interesting, we talk about the latest developments in media and how we can use these to communicate our message to people. We learn how to use media developments to influence people in a positive way. The programme has broadened my world view and shown me how many possibilities there are to change the world. I definitely have been challenged to think out of the box.’ Elise Eichler, third year student from Germany

‘What I like most about the CM specializations is that the College often consults with people in the work field and it seems we, as WHC students have what they are looking for. We learn how to bring theory into practice.’ Vera Molenaar, third year student from the Netherlands

‘I have learnt so much about communication with different people. It is so important to know how to communicate to certain cultures – what may be normal in my culture can be strange in another. We are learning to deal with that here at WHC.’ Laura Smit, second year student from The Netherlands

About Public Health

‘Our lecturers have a lot of experience and we learn from their own experience as well as through theory. We also have a lot of interesting guest lecturers who give us an insight into the working fields.’ Sebastian Borchers, first year student from Germany

‘I like the fact that we not just learn about the issues that the Public Health sector is facing, but also how they tackle these issues.’ Clenton Mitali, first year student from Rwanda

‘Public Health offers an interesting mix, from medical knowledge (syndromes, disorders, sickness) to solutions to health problems and everything in between. I have an overall picture of what’s happening worldwide in the area of Public Health, I know the relevant organizations and stakeholders and the magnitude of the problems.’ Renée Bouhuijs, third year student from The Netherlands
