For Windesheim Honours College students who need a visa to study in the Netherlands, the International office of Windesheim University of Applied Sciences offers an accelerated visa service. This service is open to WHC students, who wish to apply as a regular WHC-student and are not an EU/EEA-citizen.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries!
What kind of visa do I need?
An entry visa (MVV) is required for students outside the EU, except for students from Australia, Canada, the United States, New Zealand, Japan, South-Korea, Norway and Switzerland. Cost of an MVV: €250,-
Students who enter the Netherlands with an MVV have to apply for a regular visa (VVR) within three days after arrival in the Netherlands. Cost VVR with MVV: €188,-
Students from Australia, Canada, the United States, New Zealand, Japan, South-Korea, Norway and Switzerland do not need an entry visa, but are to apply for a regular visa (VVR) within three days after arrival in the Netherlands. Cost VVR without MVV: €433,-
This regular visa can be applied for through the International Office, after your arrival in the Netherlands, but has to be paid in advance.
If you already have a residence permit in another EU/EEA country
If you come from a country that is not mentioned on the list of EU/EEA countries but you have a residence permit of a country that is listed as an EU/EEA country that is valid for at least 6 months, you still need an MVV to enter the Netherlands. You can arrange to pick it up from the Dutch embassy or consulate in the country where you live. Please warn us in advance if this applies to you!
For more information on visa you can use the Residence Wizard on the website of the Dutch Immigration Service (IND).
Visa application procedure
- First of all, you will have to send the visa application form to the International Office of Windesheim. You can download this form from the Windesheim Honours College website.
- After receipt of your visa application form, the International Office will send you more information about any complementary documents needed to complete your application file, as well as an invoice for the payment of your visa application fee.
- You send all the required documents for your visa application to the International Office of Windesheim. The International Office will check your file and contact you should any further information be required.
- As soon as it is clear that on the basis of your diplomas (or the diploma you expect to obtain) and your interview with the Board of Admissions, you are eligible for admission to the Windesheim Honours College, you can pay your visa application fee. The money needs to be transferred to the bank account of Windesheim University.
Please note that all diplomas will be checked on falsification by the Nuffic and that the Dutch Immigration Service will be informed about any fraud. In case of falsification you are not admissible.
- If you applied for an MVV, please continue reading starting from 5.
- If you applied for a VVR, please continue reading starting from 8
- After receipt of your payment, the International Office will send your visa application to the Dutch Immigration Service.
- The Dutch Immigration Service will send a notification to the Dutch embassy in your country after the preliminary approval of the MVV application. The International Office will inform you by e-mail as soon as we have reached this stage. It takes an average of two weeks for the IND to process your file.
- You will then be invited by the Dutch embassy in your home country. The embassy might ask you a few questions about the reasons for your visa application. After this interview you will be informed about their final decision. If all goes well you will receive your visa, which allows you to enter the Netherlands. Note that you will have to enter the Netherlands within 6 months after you received your entry visa.
- Within three days after your arrival in the Netherlands you have to apply for a residence permit. The International Office will guide you through this procedure. Your residence permit will always be valid until the start of the next academic year (September 1st) and has to be renewed once a year. Please read more on how to renew your Dutch residence permit.

Requested visa documents
There are several documents we need from students in order to process their visa application. We accept translations in Dutch, English, French and German:
- A visa application form, completed and signed. Download the visa application form.
- Photocopies of all pages of your passport (including empty pages). Your passport needs to be valid for at least one year after arrival in the Netherlands.
- A recent medical statement, drawn up and signed by a registered physician or hospital.
- Proof of sufficient financial funds during your stay in the Netherlands (over a period of one year). A recent (< 3 months) and original bank statement should prove that you have access to a minimum of €765,34 per month. NB: We advise a total amount of €9.500,00 to build in a margin in connection with the daily change of exchange rates.
Proof of sufficient financial funds
Option 1
Direct payment into our bank account. You pay a sum of €9.500,00 into the bank account of Windesheim University of applied sciences. Receipt by Windesheim of this sum will be accepted by the Dutch Immigration Service as a clear proof of sufficient financial funds. As soon as you have opened a Dutch bank account - after your arrival in the Netherlands - you will be refunded the remaining amount after deduction of visa and Windesheim fees. When transferring this amount to Windesheim please add the following references: your full name and MVV and/or student number. More payment details will be given to you in your acceptance letter.
Option 2
A bank statement to your own name amounting to at least €9.500,00. This bank statement must be on original and official bank stationery - including the full name, address and telephone number of the bank as well as your full name, birth date and bank account number - declaring that you have direct access to your bank account.
