"Windesheim Honours College educates students to become highly qualified professionals, who are active across public and private domains, with a critical and reflective attitude, and a global perspective with a strong focus on intercultural diversity and sustainability"
National and international demand
Windesheim Honours College is a joint response from two educational establishments to the national and international demand for future global professionals.
The pool of knowledge intrinsic to globalising societies and economies is currently underutilized. For one thing, there is a knowledge gap between theory and practice. Moreover, much latent talent is left unchallenged, undeveloped and underused.
There is increasing demand for entrepreneurial people capable of transforming knowledge into innovation decisively and effectively. These must be inquisitive individuals, able to look beyond national borders and familiar disciplines, who are aware of new insights in their field and are capable of applying these in practice, and who possess language abilities and a good grounding in mathematics. People interested in promoting public-private collaboration, and with the capacity to work alongside others in multicultural and international teams.
Greater utilization of the available pool of knowledge requires participation by all communities and the development of potential talents, regardless of country or culture. And greater diversity will result in better mutual understanding and more effective intercultural cooperation.
Our response
Windesheim Honours College has responded to this by offering:
- A programme with a strong international focus in a multicultural setting, to students with the ambition and talent to deliver outstanding performance
- An education that teaches people to take risks, take the road less travelled, and not to accept second best
- Extra attention to foreign languages (English and at least one other) to allow the individual to function more effectively in internationally operating organisations
- A thorough grasp of mathematics and development of analytical skills
Highly qualified professionals
Windesheim Honours College pursues its mission by offering a high-level and internationally oriented educational programme, that enables our students to develop into top professionals. The educational concept also features small-scale teaching methods (groups of 25 at most), strongly practice-oriented interdisciplinary training (case-based), close contact between lecturers and students, and intensive tutoring.
International and intercultural
Moreover, our staff and students have very varied backgrounds. Forty percent of the students at Windesheim Honours College will come from abroad. The rest come from the multicultural Netherlands; they also form a very diverse group. All our students live together on campus in Zwolle’s historic centre.
